Assignment
We were assigned to design a Bookstore in an existing building in Manayunk, Pennsylvania. We were able to choose our client and genre of book we sold. I decided i wantede to make a Fairytale Bookstore.
Concept
Once Upon a Bookstore is a multi-story building that resembles an abstracted castle that plays on the idea of strong vs. delicate.There are three main levels and four mid levels that represent the explosion of the castle. the glowing catwalksexpress the delicate nature of the design while the mass that everything connects back to expresses the strong nature of the design.

Client
The client is a retired elementary school teacher with an interest in fairytales. She is drawn to the whimsy and imagination that fairytales bring to children and therefore she wishes to gear the bookstore towards children and their playfulness.

Wayfinding
In order to incorporate wayfinding, each glowing platform glows a specific color and corresponds to a directory that is located by the elevator on the first floor and mezzanine level. This guides the circulation to the main areas within the store.

Sustainability
To keep this project as sustainable as possible every material used is sustainable. The existing facade is being used, along with sustainability conscious manufacturers and recycled or reclaimed materials.
